Set up UPS shipment tracking for a warehouse

UPS uses tracking numbers to identify and trace every shipment as it moves from one location to another. Each of your shipments sent by UPS is automatically assigned a tracking number. You or your customer can enter this number at the UPS web site to track, locate, and verify the arrival of your shipment.

If you ship any customer orders by UPS, you can link your customer orders with UPS tracking numbers. This enables you to look up a customer order on the Order Inquiry screen of the Customer Service tab in Vision to find the UPS tracking number. Then you or your customer can enter this number at the UPS web site to track, locate, and verify the arrival of your customer's shipment.

A PC that has the UPS software is typically set up in a warehouse that ships customer orders by UPS. The UPS software uses two comma-separated value (CSV) files, which are stored on the PC's hard drive:

The Warehouse maintenance on the System Configuration screen of the Vision Configuration tab is where you specify the directory of the CSV files so that the system knows where to obtain the release and tracking information.

Vision Back Office has two menu options that enable you to update information in your warehouse's CSV files and add UPS tracking numbers to Vision. For more information, refer to Overview of UPS shipment tracking.

Note: To access the Warehouse maintenance, you must have the proper security privileges. The File Maintenance Warehouse job function needs to be assigned to one of your roles. Roles are assigned to users in the User Maintenance on the Security Maintenance screen of the Vision Configuration tab. For more information, refer to About roles and job functions.
