A substitute product replaces the product ordered by the customer (known as the sub-from product) with an acceptable replacement (known as a sub-to product). The goal of substitution logic is to make product substitutions consistent and easy to manage while improving the bottom line. Product substitutions are set up in advance by your Purchasing Department. You can handle individual customer needs by excluding some substitutions at a customer level or at a ship to level.
The Pricing screen on the Customer Maintenance tab is where you can exclude substitutions at the customer level.
Select the customer on the Search screen of the Customer Maintenance tab if you have not already done so. (For instructions on how to do this, please refer to Select a customer.)
Click the Pricing button. The Pricing screen appears.
If the customer accepts product substitutions, select Always in the Allow Subs drop-down list. If the customer does not accept product substitutions, select Never in the Allow Subs drop-down list. (In the latter case, you cannot add substitution exclusions to the Exclusions list, since it would not be necessary. In addition, you would not be able to set maintain the Allow Subs drop-down list or the Exclusions list at the ship to level.)
In the Exclusions field, enter the product number for a product for which the customer does not accept substitutes. The product number you enter should be a sub-from product, not a sub-to product.
Note: Enter the exact product number in the Exclusions field because there is no look-up functionality for this field.
Click the Add button. The product and its description is added to the Exclusions listing.
Select the customer on the Search screen if you have not already done so. (For instructions on how to do this, please refer to Select a customer.)
Click the Pricing button. The Pricing screen appears.
In the Exclusions listing, select the product for which the customer will not accept substitutes.
Click the Remove button. The product and its description is removed from the Exclusions listing.
