When customer service reps place orders on the Customer Service tab, they need to select a valid unit of measure (UOM) for each product. The UOM screen on the Product Management tab is where you identify a product's valid units of measure. A maximum of four UOMs can be set up for a product.
For each UOM, you must designate the corresponding quantity multiple. In addition, you can also indicate dimensions, weight, and UPCs for each UOM. UPCs are used during scan receiving: after someone scans a product's UPC barcode, the system identifies what item the UPC is associated with and the UOM/quantity multiple for that UPC.
The UOM screen is also where you can also specify a master pack quantity, which is the quantity multiple that should be used when a replenishment purchase order is created.
The units of measure and the master pack quantity are set up at the global product level, not at the warehouse product level. If you change any of these settings for a product at the global product level, the system automatically pushes the changes to all of the product's warehouse product records. Note that it is not possible to change any of these specific settings at the warehouse product level.
Note: Only units of measure that have already been set up for your system can be used for establishing a product's units of measure. Units of measure are set up and maintained on the UOM Titles screen of the Vision Configuration tab. For information on how units of measure are created for your system, refer to field and button descriptions for the UOM Titles screen.
Note: Do not change a product's lowest unit of measure. The cost dollars for the product, sales history, purchase orders, and contract pricing are all affected by such a change. It is generally best to set up a new product with a new lowest unit of measure. Please contact Client Services at The Systems House for assistance.
Select the global product on the Product Lookup screen of the Product Management tab if you have not already done so. (For instructions on how to do this, refer to Select a product.)
On the Product Management tab, click the UOM button. The UOM screen appears.
In the UOM drop-down list, select the appropriate unit of measure.

To modify information for an existing unit of measure, select it from the UOM listing.

In the Weight field, you can type the length of the product. Entry in this field is not required.
Four different fields are available for the UPCs of this product. Type a UPC in one or more of the UPC Codes fields, as necessary.
For example, let's say that when you purchase a particular part from the vendor, your order quantity must be in the Each unit of measure. However, the vendor sells this part in packs of four only. In this case, you would type 4 in the Master Pack Qty field.
Click the Accept button to save your changes. The units of measure that you have established for this product are now available to customer service reps when they enter a line item for the product on the Customer Service tab.
