When you are entering a standard order, a credit memo pickup, or a credit memo one step, you need to specify an option from the Action area for each line item. Valid options are sale or credit, inventory return, warranty, and core.
To better understand how Vision processes inventory returns, review the following frequently asked questions and their corresponding answers.
When is it appropriate to select Inventory Return in the Action area for a line item?
If the line item is an inventory return, how are the price and cost affected?
How does the system process inventory returns? Which warehouse receives the returns?

The Inventory Return option enables you to add a line item for a product that is being returned and that is in a sellable condition. A credit is applied to the order for the inventory return item. Inventory returns are returned to the warehouse and made available for new customer orders if Standard or C/M One Step are selected in the Order Type area on the Current Order screen. To apply a credit for an inventory return line item to an existing release or invoice, select C/M Pickup or C/M One Step in the Order Type area on the Current Order screen. To combine an inventory return line item on the same order with sale line items, select Standard in the Order Type area. Note that if Standard is selected, the credit cannot be applied to an existing release or invoice. |
If the line item is an inventory return, how are the price and cost affected? |

The following are details that apply to inventory return line items:
If the Standard option is selected in the Order Type drop-down list, only users who have the Product Price Override job function assigned to one of their roles can override the price. (Roles are assigned to users in the User Maintenance on the Security Maintenance screen of the Vision Configuration tab. For more information, refer to About roles and job functions.) If the C/M Pickup option or the C/M One Step option is selected in the Order Type drop-down list, any user can override the price to indicate the price that the customer originally paid for the product.
The excise tax fee is a negative dollar amount for all inventory return line items. To calculate the excise tax amount for the line item, the system multiplies the line item amount and the excise tax percentage, if one is available.
The disposal fee is a negative dollar amount for all inventory return line items. To calculate the disposal fee for the line item, the system uses the following formula: Disposal Fee = (Ordered Quantity — Canceled Quantity) X Disposal Fee Amount
The restocking fee is a negative dollar amount for all inventory return line items. To calculate the restocking fee for the line item, the system multiplies the dollar amount of the line item by the value entered in this Restocking% field. |

How does the system process inventory returns? Which warehouse receives the returns? |

When customers return products to you that are still in a sellable condition, you can return those products to the warehouse and make them available for order fulfillment. The products are returned to the ordering warehouse — the warehouse selected for the order. (For more information, refer to Specify the warehouse.) If the order type is standard or C/M one step, the on-hand quantity of the warehouse selected for the current order is increased as soon as the order is accepted to reflect the addition of the product being returned. If the order type is C/M pickup, the on-hand quantity is increased at verification time. Note: If you are entering a new order and you change the Action option from Sale to Inventory Return, any committed inventory is backed out. Furthermore, if you are entering a new order and you change the Action option from Inventory Return to Sale, the inventory is committed and line item sourcing logic is invoked if applicable. (For more information on line item sourcing, refer to Source a line item.) |
