Modify an ABC model

Vision enables you to set up ABC models that are used to rank products based on average monthly usage during a rolling 12-month period in one or more warehouses. The system then assigns ABC codes to products based on those rankings.

You can set up and maintain ABC models and assign them to one or more warehouses. For each ABC model, you can establish different ABC rules based on manufacturer, product class, and product type. Each ABC rule is associated with one or more ABC classification calculations.

The ABC Model screen of the Purchasing tab is where you modify an existing ABC model.

Note: An ABC model is not used for ABC classification of products until it is assigned to a warehouse. The System Configuration screen of the Vision Configuration tab is where you assign an ABC model to a warehouse. For more information, refer to Specify ABC classification settings for a warehouse.

Note: To access the ABC Model screen, you must have the proper security privileges. The ROP Maintenance job function needs to be assigned to one of your roles. Roles are assigned to users in the User Maintenance on the Security Maintenance screen of the Vision Configuration tab. For more information, refer to About roles and job functions.

To modify an ABC model

  1. On the Purchasing tab, click the ABC Model button. The ABC Model screen appears.

  2. In the Model listing at the bottom of the screen, click the row in the listing for the ABC model you would like to change. In the ABC Rules area, the ABC matrix for the ABC model you selected is shown.

  3. There are many ways you can modify the ABC model.

  1. To reposition an ABC factor, drag a column heading to a new position in the row of column headings.

  2. To reposition an ABC rule, drag the gray box at the left of the row to a new position in the column of boxes.

  3. To add a new rule, right-click the gray box in the far left column of a rule and then select Insert New Rule on the shortcut menu. The new rule is added above the rule you right-clicked.

  4. To delete a rule, right-click the gray box in the far left column of the rule to be deleted and then select Delete Rule on the shortcut menu.

  5. If you want to make sure that ABC classification calculations are done for all products, set all three of the ABC factors (manufacturer, product class, and product type) for the last rule in an ABC model to <All>. Then if a product does not meet any of the criteria in any of the other ABC rules, the ABC classification calculations associated with the final rule—your All rule—will be performed for this product.

  6. Each ABC rule must have an associated ABC classification calculation. To set up or change calculation data, right-click the gray box in the far left column of a rule and then select Change Calculation Data on the shortcut menu. The ABC Classification dialog box appears, enabling you to set up and maintain the ABC calculations. (For more information, refer to Set up or modify ABC classification calculations.)

  7. Note that before you can set up calculation data for an ABC rule, options must be selected for each of the rule's three ABC factors (manufacturer, product class, and product type) in the ABC Rules area.

  8. Duplicate ABC rules are not permitted in the ABC matrix.

  1. Click the Accept button to save your ABC model.
