System Configuration: Product Class

Descriptions of the fields and buttons for the Product Class maintenance are provided in the following table. The Product Class folder is a subfolder of the Product Information folder on the System Configuration screen of the Vision Configuration tab.

To create a new product class, right-click the Product Class folder and select Add New Product Class.

Note: To access the Product Class maintenance, you must have the proper security privileges. The File Maintenance OE job function needs to be assigned to one of your roles. Roles are assigned to users in the User Maintenance on the Security Maintenance screen of the Vision Configuration tab. For more information, refer to About roles and job functions.

Field or button

Description

Product Class

This field contains the three-digit code that identifies this particular product class.

Product class codes 800 through 999 are reserved for use with non-inventory products, such as kits, and the Furniture system.

The product classes are used for booking amounts to the General Ledger. These amounts are shown on your Daily and Monthly Invoice Register Recap.

Product classes are also used in the Customer Activity Analysis by Product Class Report, as well as the Salesman Product Class Analysis.

Description

This field is used to describe the classification that corresponds to the product class code. The description can be up to 25 characters long.

Class Type

This drop-down list identifies the type of product class.

Business Type

This drop-down list indicates which business category the system should use to accumulate statistical data for orders delivered by an outside carrier.

Tax Category

This drop-down list identifies the default tax category for the product class.

Requisition Category

If you are creating SupplyPoint e-commerce requisition lists from Vision product classes, this drop-down list should be used to generate meaningful categories. The categories group requisition list products in SupplyPoint Order Entry into smaller groups, enabling the user to find products faster and more easily.

When you designate a requisition category for this product class, select product classes as your category during Requisition from Contract Generation.

Machines/Field Service

Warranty Days

This field indicates the number of days that the customer warranty is in effect on service agreements for this product class.

This field is available if Accessories, Machines, or Parts is selected in the Class Type drop-down list.

Metered Machine

If meter reading is required for this product class, select this check box. If it is not required, clear this check box.

This field is available only if Machines is selected in the Class Type drop-down list.

Warranty Clicks

For machines that require meter reading, this field indicates the number of clicks covered under the warranty for items in this product class.

This field is available only if Machines is selected in the Class Type and the Metered Machine check box is selected.

Automotive

Job Code

If your system is integrated with the service shop management software called Yes Management System, select the appropriate job code that should be used for this product class. Job codes enable you to separate labor and parts into individual sections on an invoice. For more information, refer to Overview of integrated service shop management.

This drop-down list is displayed only if you are using the Auto flavor of Vision.

Follow Up

If your system is integrated with the service shop management software called Yes Management System, select the appropriate follow-up option that should be used for this product class.

For example, let's say that you enter a service shop ticket for a customer who is having work done in your service shop. If one of the parts on the ticket has a product class that includes a follow-up code, the next time that customer stops in your service shop for service, a follow-up reminder is displayed in the Yes Management System. This drop-down list is displayed only if you are using the Auto flavor of Vision.

Warranty Code

If your system is integrated with the service shop management software called Yes Management System, select the appropriate warranty code that should be used for this product class. The warranty code indicates which warranty information should be included on the invoice. For more information, refer to Overview of integrated service shop management.

This drop-down list is displayed only if you are using the Auto flavor of Vision.

Invoice Total

If your system is integrated with the service shop management software called Yes Management System, select the appropriate invoice total option that should be used for this product class. The invoice total code indicates which sales tax category should be used for products that belong to this product class. For more information, refer to Overview of integrated service shop management.

This drop-down list is displayed only if you are using the Auto flavor of Vision.

Commission Department

If your system is integrated with the service shop management software called Yes Management System, select the appropriate commission department that should be used for this product class. Commission departments are often assigned to labor items for use in commission-based payroll systems. For more information, refer to Overview of integrated service shop management.

This drop-down list is displayed only if you are using the Auto flavor of Vision.

Service Shop Price Level

If your system is integrated with the service shop management software called Yes Management System, select the appropriate service shop price level that should be used for this product class. For more information, refer to Overview of integrated service shop management.

This drop-down list is displayed only if you are using the Auto flavor of Vision.

Excise Tax %

If an excise tax is charged for products that belong to this product class, type the excise tax percentage in this field.

This field is displayed only if you are using the Auto flavor of Vision.

Disposal Fee

If a disposal fee is charged for products that belong to this product class, type the disposal fee in this field.

This field is displayed only if you are using the Auto flavor of Vision.

Shop Supplies %

If your system is integrated with the service shop management software called Yes Management System, type the appropriate shop supplies percentage that should be used for this product class. This shop supplies percentage is a charge that covers the cost of additional materials that may be used. Hand cleaners, rags, grease, and other items that are not used in their entirety for any individual job are examples of such supplies.
