Specify the type of inventory that a warehouse carries

When you are setting up a warehouse (or store) in your system, you need to specify the type of inventory that it carries. You have four options for classifying the inventory type:

Specifying the inventory class of a warehouse helps you track and separate different types of inventory so that you can process items appropriately. For example, warranty inventory that has been returned should not be resold to customers, and it should not be included as part of your on-hand, available quantity. However, you still need to keep track of it so that you can return it to the vendor for a credit. Setting up a warehouse as a warranty warehouse (or setting up part of your warehouse as a warranty warehouse) enables you to build an audit trail of warranty items that your customers return to you and that you return to your vendors.

The Warehouse maintenance on the System Configuration screen of the Vision Configuration tab is where you specify the type of inventory that a warehouse carries.

Note: You can select only one type of inventory class per warehouse. If a warehouse carries different types of inventory, you should create a different warehouse in your system for each type of inventory it carries. This is necessary to properly process different types of inventory.

Note: To access the Warehouse maintenance, you must have the proper security privileges. The File Maintenance Warehouse job function needs to be assigned to one of your roles. Roles are assigned to users in the User Maintenance on the Security Maintenance screen of the Vision Configuration tab. For more information, refer to About roles and job functions.
