Modify an ROP model

Vision enables you to establish ROP models that are used to specify settings for calculation of average monthly usage, safety stock, reorder point, and/or linepoint. You can set up and maintain ROP models and assign them to one or more warehouses. For each ROP model, you can establish different ROP rules based on manufacturer, product class, product type, and ABC code. Each ROP rule is associated with one or more calculations.

The ROP Model screen of the Purchasing tab is where you modify an existing ROP model.

Note: An ROP model is not used for calculating average monthly usage and reorder points for products until the model is assigned to a warehouse. The System Configuration screen of the Vision Configuration tab is where you assign an ROP model to a warehouse. For more information, refer to Specify ROP settings for a warehouse.

Note: To access the ROP Model screen, you must have the proper security privileges. The ROP Maintenance job function needs to be assigned to one of your roles. Roles are assigned to users in the User Maintenance on the Security Maintenance screen of the Vision Configuration tab. For more information, refer to About roles and job functions.

To modify an ROP model

  1. On the Purchasing tab, click the ROP Model button. The ROP Model screen appears.

  2. In the Model listing at the bottom of the screen, click the row in the listing for the ROP model you would like to change. In the ROP Rules area, the ROP matrix for the ROP model you selected is shown.

  3. There are many ways you can modify the ROP model.

  1. To reposition an ROP factor, drag a column heading to a new position in the row of column headings.

  2. To reposition an ROP rule, drag the gray box at the left of the row to a new position in the column of boxes.

  3. To add a new rule, right-click the gray box in the far left column of a rule and then select Insert New Rule on the shortcut menu. The new rule is added above the rule you right-clicked.

  4. To delete a rule, right-click the gray box in the far left column of the rule to be deleted and then select Delete Rule on the shortcut menu.

  5. If you want to make sure that your own ROP calculations are done for all products, set all four of the ROP factors (manufacturer, product class, and product type) for the last rule in an ROP model to <All>. Then if a product does not meet any of the criteria in any of the other ROP rules, the ROP calculations associated with the final rule—your All rule—will be performed for this product.

  6. Each ROP rule must have an associated ROP or average monthly usage calculation. To set up or change calculation data, right-click the gray box in the far left column of a rule and then select Change Calculation Data on the shortcut menu. The Average Monthly Usage and Reorder Point Classifications dialog box appears, enabling you to set up and maintain the ROP and average monthly usage calculations. (For more information, refer to Set up or modify an average monthly usage calculation for an ROP model, Set up or modify reorder point calculations for an ROP model, and Set up or modify the average monthly usage minimum factor for an ROP model.)

  7. Note that before you can set up calculation data for an ROP rule, options must be selected for each of the rule's four ROP factors (manufacturer, product class, product type, and ABC code) in the ROP Rules area.

  8. Duplicate ROP rules are not permitted in the ROP matrix.

  1. Click the Accept button to save your ROP model.
